Some days are the pits before you even get out of bed.
You know the kind; you’ve probably had them also- where everything seems to collide and collapse like dominos, and all your plans and intentions take early retirement and going back to bed seems like paradise.
Yeah…Me too.
So, yesterday the phone woke me out of a solid sleep. When I hung up, I glanced at the time.
DOG-BITE-IT!!!!- I had something important to do early- had planned for and prepared all week, but somehow, had forgotten to set the alarm clock. And now it was too late.
Strange how something like that can take you so fast on a downward spiral!
“Sorry I wasn’t in the mood to be a person today…Sorry my soul needs ironing. Give me a moment, a day or so. It’ll be good.” Unknown
“It all depends on how we look at things, and not how they are in themselves.” Carl Jung
The rest of the day resembled scrambled eggs. Every darn thing got all disheveled and smooched together, and by the end of the day, the number of my accomplishments was a grand total of zippo…nada…zilch.
Not only did nothing of any significance get done, but now I felt like a total dysfunctional failure, which just added to my dismal mood.
Massive pity party!
“If you are feeling blue- Try painting yourself a different color.” Hannah Cheatem
Off to early bed, because it seemed nothing was going to redeem this mucked up day.
My one to-do task that I might still get done was to check my back e-mail, which I proceeded to do –on my phone- in my bed.
And there was Tim Ferriss’ s 5-Bullet-Friday post, where he recommends certain things in which he is interested. He gives me a whole new and different perspective on lots of stuff.
So…what the heck- I listened to a commencement speech by David Foster Wallace, which he gave at Kenyon College on May 21, 2005., titled “This is Water”.
There have been more than 2,300,000 views and Tim mentioned a friend who listens every two weeks for inspiration.
There are no coincidences! If ever something was going to snap me out of my funk, this was it. Powerful!

Life is about choices. Some we regret, some we’re proud of. Some will haunt us forever. The message – we are what we chose to be. Graham Brown
It sure challenged me to re-evaluate the day, and see where I allowed the choices I made to aggravate and perpetuate my blue mood.
I hope you’ll take the time to listen, and find it equally thought-provoking.
