About Me
Well…here’s more than you ever really wanted to know.
My friends call me Ginny, and I have been a teacher, pastor, hospice chaplain, retreat leader, program presenter, and spiritual director. I have loved most working in the area of spiritual growth and original thinking, and I guess I would call myself a pot-stirrer and spiritual mid-wife.
I think I am known for an open-minded approach to the search for the Divine, and have acquired a real appreciation for the varied and multiple ways that one’s faith journey reveals both our deepest selves, and the God with-in, and with-out.
And yeah- I’ve earned three Master’s degrees: in Education, Divinity, and Theology, as well as a Doctor of Divinity in Spirituality, and, as an ordained pastor, served in an interdenominational church for 31 years….and before that I taught school for many years.
Now that you’re bored silly with details- let me chat a bit about my own journey.
My search and sojourn has led me to innumerable seminars and workshops, to extensive reading, and to visiting sacred sites around the globe. I spent five formative years participating in a program called Tree of Life.
You’d think I’d get tired of years of classes, but I ‘ve gained so much by attending lectures, classes or retreats with many leaders of diverse spiritual traditions and have attended eight various sessions at Omega Institute in upstate New York. I’ve got a head full of good stuff!
Various forms of worship have so much to teach us, I think, and I have attended a number of synagogue services and have been to at least eight seder dinners with two different Jewish families. I visited Israel twice, once for a month, living with a Jewish Israeli family, and once as a part of a Jewish/Christian trip.
As if that weren’t enough, I’ve attended services in most main-line Protestant churches, gone often to Roman Catholic mass, went to a muslim worship service in a mosque, visited a local Hindu temple, went frequently to a Russian Orthodox Vespers, and attended two Zen Buddhist workshops. Then, when I was in Japan, I visited numerous Buddhist and Shinto shrines and temples, and participated in an Oban ceremony.
A really unique experience was participating in a Native American communion service and in a smudging ceremony. A medicine man/shaman in Zimbabwe, Africa thrilled me by inviting me into his hut for a long chat and demonstration.
Visits to holy sites have been a super part of my spiritual journey, and I’ve visited sites in Israel, Jordan, England, Scotland, Germany, Costa Rica, Canada, France, Holland, Italy, Greece, to mention some of the countries. Two days were spent living at L’Abri, Switzerland, and Iona, Scotland was a special place to visit.
All of these experiences have created an expanded understanding, open mind and a keen desire to help others experience the riches that can inform, deepen, and help personalize our individual spiritual journeys.
Probing the depths of this spiritual journey on which we all travel, with intensity blended with laughter, I have been fortunate enough to facilitate a spiritual growth group for 28 years, and have experienced multiple changes in my own life.
I’d love for us to build a community here of searchers and sojourners as we expand and grow! Let’s do it together!
